How It Works
The Fitzpatrick Scale classifies skin types by their reaction to UV exposure. Combined with the UV Index (available in weather apps), this determines the minimum SPF and reapplication frequency needed to prevent sunburn and long-term skin damage.
UV Index Guidelines
UV Index 1-2: Minimal protection needed. 3-5: Moderate—wear sunscreen. 6-7: High—reduce sun exposure. 8-10: Very High—avoid midday sun. 11+: Extreme—extra precautions essential.
💡 TipApply sunscreen 20 minutes before sun exposure. Use 1/4 teaspoon for face and 1 ounce (full shot glass) for body. Reapply every 2 hours or immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.
