How It Works
Altitude sickness (acute mountain sickness) occurs when ascending too quickly without proper acclimatization. The body needs time to produce more red blood cells and adjust to lower oxygen levels. The golden rule: never ascend more than 500m per day above 3,000m.
Altitude Zones
0-1,500m: No acclimatization needed. 1,500-2,500m: Minor effects possible. 2,500-3,500m: 1-2 days acclimatization. 3,500-4,500m: 3-5 days minimum. Above 4,500m: Expert guidance required.
💡 TipSymptoms of altitude sickness include headache, nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. If symptoms worsen, descend immediately—there's no substitute for lower altitude.
